About the Competition
The New York City Bar and the American College of Trial Lawyers have sponsored a National Moot Court Competition since 1950, making the National Moot Court competition one of the oldest in the country. Every year, over 150 law schools compete in the regional rounds throughout the country. The top two teams from each region advance to compete in the final rounds held at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. The University of Washington School of Law typically sends two three-person teams to compete at the Northwestern Regional Rounds each year.
The University of Washington School of Law has a history of strong performance in this competition, including a National Championship in 2006–07. The 2018-19 teams were quarterfinalists and finalists at the regional competition. The 2017-18 teams placed were semifinalists and finalists at the regional competition and went on to finish among the top four out of 191 teams at nationals. One team also won the award for writing the runner-up best brief in the country.
