Judson Falknor
2L/3L Appellate Advocacy

The Judson Falknor 2L/3L Appellate Advocacy Competition gives participants the opportunity to write a brief and present an oral argument with a teammate. Participants advance past the preliminary rounds based on accumulated points, and the field is narrowed during the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds.

In addition to acquiring and polishing trial advocacy skills, competitors can:
  • Earn points towards membership on UW Moot Court Honor Board
  • Students may receive up to 2 credits for participation in the Falknor Competition by registering for 2 credits of Law 600. Competitors are eligible to receive 1 credit for submitting a satisfactory brief that complies with the Falknor Competition Rules and complete the preliminary round portion of competition. Competitors are eligible to receive an additional 1 credit if they make it to the quarterfinal round.

Participation in the 2L/3L Appellate Advocacy Competition is also a category for selection to the Order of the Barristers.
Students may apply for the Order of the Barristers in the last quarter of their 3L year and, if selected, will be honored at graduation.

Register now to receive the problem and get the chance to start writing your brief over winter break! We will be hosting an in-person info session on January 7, 2020 in Room 116 at 12:30 to go over the rules and answer any questions, but you don't need to wait until then to register!
Past winners can be found on our historical results page.
